Apple Bank Brings Back a Newly Installed Time & Temperature Display at Upper West Side Branch as Part of the Bank’s 162nd Anniversary Celebration
April 15, 2025
Apple Bank is proud to announce the return of the iconic Time & Temperature display to its neighborhood landmark on 73rd Street. Just in time for the Bank’s upcoming 162nd Anniversary celebration, the beloved display has been newly installed and will be officially reintroduced to the Upper West Side community.
The Time & Temperature display will be reintroduced to the community during a public, 162nd Anniversary celebration held at the 73rd Street Branch planned for Monday, April 28 at 1:00 PM.
This iconic, Landmark building was designed in the Renaissance Revival Style by York and Sawyer for the Central Savings Bank, which first opened its doors on December 8, 1928. Its rusticated limestone facade, punched with massive arched windows, is complete with ornamental ironwork by master blacksmith, Samuel Yellin of Philadelphia.
A familiar sight to generations of Upper West Siders, the Time & Temperature sign has served as both a functional street corner staple and a nostalgic symbol of the neighborhood’s charm. Its return highlights Apple Bank’s dedication to preserving tradition while continuing to invest in the communities it serves.
“As New York’s neighborhood bank, we take great pride in the role our institution plays in maintaining and preserving the historic buildings that make up our city’s skyline,” said Steven C. Bush, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer at Apple Bank. “The return of the time and temperature display to our 73rd Street branch is our small contribution to the neighborhood. We are happy to restore the display in its new and improved condition overlooking Verdi Square.”
This 162nd Anniversary celebration event will welcome members of Apple Bank’s 73rd Street branch team, including Branch Manager Monique Smith, the Bank’s senior executive team and the local community, where all can enjoy hors d’oeuvres, beverages, and engaging conversations. The branch team will also be raffling a gift certificate to one lucky winner to dine at a NYC restaurant.
Attendees are encouraged to share photos and join the celebration online using the hashtag #bigAppleBankCelebration.
