Apple Bank Partners with Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle to Offer Opportunities to Underserved Youth in New Rochelle
October 11, 2023
Apple Bank awarded a grant to Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle (BGCNR) of $55,000 for academic, leadership, and health and mental wellness programming at its new Remington Clubhouse, the first youth development facility to be built in New Rochelle in the past 40 years.
Apple Bank is granting this multiyear sponsorship to a local nonprofit organization, demonstrating the Bank’s commitment to making a positive difference in the communities within its footprint. Through this partnership, Apple Bank has helped fund Remington Clubhouse startup costs and ongoing support over the next three years to position the club’s future growth.
Apple Bank is committed to using its resources to help meet the credit, investment, and service needs of its marketplace, especially in low- to moderate-income communities. The new Remington Clubhouse will offer vital support to New Rochelle’s Lincoln Park community, where nearly 20% of residents have income below the poverty level. Expected to serve over 700 youth — with a focus on academics, enrichment, social and emotional learning, college/career readiness, and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education programs — the facility will house vital services parents can count on, with mentors, meals, and meaningful experiences outside school hours. In addition, Apple Bank will collaborate with BGCNR to provide financial literacy training to the club’s youth and their families.
“This investment will go a long way to support the incredible young people in the greater New York area,” said President Steven C. Bush, Chairman, President, and CEO of Apple Bank, who will be honored by BGCNR at its 61st annual golf outing in October. “By investing in the leaders and innovators of tomorrow, Apple Bank is ready, willing, and able to play its part to foster opportunity and equity and inclusion right here in our own neighborhood.”
“Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle is grateful for Apple Bank’s generosity and partnership in helping us open doors to opportunity for underserved communities in Westchester,” said Becky Mazzanobile, CEO, BGCNR. “This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to strengthening our community, fostering equality and inclusivity, and paving paths to success for tomorrow’s leaders. Together, we’ll work to address the needs of our neighbors in New Rochelle’s Lincoln Park neighborhood, through traditional club programming, and new initiatives focusing on personal finance, entrepreneurship, and introductions to finance sector careers, among others. We could not have asked for a more committed partner as we prepare to welcome kids and teens to the new Remington this fall.”
About Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle
Founded in 1929, Boys & Girls Club of New Rochelle (BGCNR) has been an integral part of the community, offering quality, achievement-driven programming focused on the whole child - encompassing academics, mental wellness, fitness, leadership, and civics.
Today, the organization serves over 7,000 youth annually at 16 school sites and two clubhouses, offering them a safe place to learn and grow, ongoing relationships with caring professionals, life- enhancing programs and character development experiences, and hope and opportunity.
About the Remington Clubhouse
Scheduled to open in fall 2023, BGCNR’s new Remington Clubhouse is the first youth development facility built in New Rochelle in over 40 years. This state-of-the-art building is a cornerstone of the “Renaissance at Lincoln Park” public-private collaboration and, with 22,000 square feet, nearly twice the size of the former Remington.
Allowing BGCNR to serve over 700 members, compared to 320 at the old building, this transformative project will offer an environment equipped with learning centers, a gym, basketball court, music/podcast studio, teen room/lounge, STEAM room, cafeteria, and other spaces to anchor the community and nurture our next generation of leaders.
