The Simple Checking account can only be opened online. However, once your account is open, you’ll have the convenience of being able to visit and transact at any of our branch locations.
As part of your account opening, you’ll be able to deposit up to $2,500.
After your account is created, you’ll need to fund your account within 30 days of account opening. You can fund your account in the following ways:
- Make a deposit online during account opening: Select an external account (from one of your other bank accounts) to fund your Simple Checking account. A minimum deposit of $10 is required when using the External Funds Transfer option at the time of application to fund your account.
- Online Transfer: Log in to your account online at applebank.com or on the Apple Bank Mobile App.4 You can transfer money from another bank account in your name or from your Apple Bank account. To add a new account from another institution, go to Transfer and select Add External Account.
It’s easy to open a Simple Checking account. Simply make sure you have the following information on hand:
· Your personal information, including Social Security number, email address, mobile number and other personal information that will help us to identify you
· Driver's license, passport or government-issued ID

No. Apple Bank's Simple Checking account is available to new customers who reside in New York or New Jersey.
If you currently have another type of account at Apple Bank and your permanent address is in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania or Florida, you are able to apply online for the Simple Checking account.
There are several ways you can make a deposit to your account:
- Online Transfer: Log in to your account online at applebank.com or on the Apple Bank Mobile App.4 You can transfer money from another bank account in your name or from your Apple Bank account. To add a new account from another institution, go to Transfer and select Add External Account.
- Mobile check deposit: If you haven’t already, download the Apple Bank Mobile App4 on your phone and enroll in mobile check deposit. Then, you can deposit your checks by simply taking a picture. Make sure each check is properly endorsed with your signature and account number. Remember to write “For Mobile Deposit Only” on the back.
- Apple Bank branch or ATM: Visit your nearest location to make your first deposit. Certain types of checks and money orders are not accepted at Apple Bank ATMs.
- Mail your check: Make sure each check is properly endorsed with your signature and account number. Do not mail cash. Be sure to seal the envelope and mail it to us at:

The Simple Checking account has no monthly maintenance fees, and the accountholder is entitled to free and unlimited, domestic and international non-Apple Bank ATM transactions. In addition, Apple Bank will reimburse all surcharges imposed by the ATM owner/operator during each statement cycle period.
No, the Simple Checking account does not currently offer overdraft protection during account opening. Once your account is open, you can visit one of our branches, give us a call at 800-588-5871 (TDD: 800-824-0710), or email us at [email protected] to establish overdraft protection on the account.
As part of your application, you’ll be able to add a joint owner.

It’s simple! You will be automatically enrolled in the Simple Banking Program once you have established a Simple Checking account in addition to a Simple Savings account. Complete five qualifying credit and/or debit transactions (minimum $25 per transaction) per month, and you will be eligible to receive an interest rate that is one-quarter of one percent (0.25%) higher than the then current interest rate in effect for the Simple Savings account(s).
Here are the full details on the qualifying transactions:
Credit Transaction: A qualifying credit transaction for purposes of this Program means a credit of $25 or more to your Simple Checking account from a direct deposit, mobile Remoted Deposit Capture (mRDC), or a transfer from an account at another financial institution (including Person-to-Person transfers (P2P), such as Zelle). Credit transactions by any other means (e.g., ATM and/or in-person branch deposits or transfers between your accounts at Apple Bank) do not qualify as a credit transaction for purposes of meeting the eligibility criteria stated above.
Debit Transaction: A qualifying debit transaction for purposes of this Program means a debit of $25 or more from your Simple Checking account and includes ACH debits, electronic bill payments, electronic funds transfers to an account at another financial institution (including Person-to-Person transfers (P2P), such as Zelle) or use of your Visa Debit Card as a method of payment for a purchase. Debit transactions by any other means (e.g., ATM and/or in-person branch withdrawals or transfers between your accounts at Apple Bank) do not qualify as debit transactions for purposes of meeting the eligibility criteria stated above.
No worries. If you don’t qualify for the preferred interest rate, you’ll still receive the current intererst rate on the
Simple Savings account in effect on the day after the evaluation date. And, just because you didn’t qualify for the preferred interest rate this month, simply conduct 5 qualified transactions during the next evaluating period - your account is evaluated every month. Log in to your account and click on account details to see the rate you’re earning.

2Annual Percentage Yield (APY) disclosed is effective as of January 1, 2025 and may be changed by the Bank at any time, including after account opening. Interest is earned on daily balances of $1.00 or more at 1.00% interest rate and 1.01% APY. There is no minimum deposit amount required to open or maintain this account. A minimum deposit of $10.00 is required when using the External Funds Transfer option at the time of application to fund your account.
3You will be automatically enrolled in the Simple Banking Program once you have established a Simple Checking account (anchor account) in addition to your existing Simple Savings account (benefit account). Customers meeting the monthly transaction requirements will be eligible to receive a rate that is one-quarter of one percent (0.25%) higher (preferred rate) than the then current interest rate in effect for the Simple Savings Account(s). The Primary owner of the Simple Checking account must be with a Primary or Secondary owner of the Simple Savings Account (benefit account) and complete five (5) qualifying credit and/or debit transactions (minimum $25.00 per transaction) per month for the account to be eligible to receive the preferred interest rate. If you do not meet the qualification requirements in any monthly evaluation period, the preferred interest rate will be reduced to the then current Simple Savings interest rate in effect on the day after evaluation date. The Simple Banking Program allows for one (1) Simple Checking account which may be linked to multiple Simple Savings accounts for the purpose of receiving the preferred interest rate when the required activity in your Simple Checking account is met.
